Cavan, a county in Ireland where both my parents were born and raised. During my youth, it was important to my mum that my sister and I had a strong relationship with our Irish roots and family growing up. We visit Cavan almost every year and one thing I've noticed growing up is how abandoned rural Ireland is starting to feel. Even when I was a child, my Mum's hometown of Killeshandra had a lot more life to it then it seems to have now. Most of the shops on the high street have closed but nothing has come in to replace them and this problem echoes in a lot of other small towns throughout the country.
My Dad's family home in Coronea stands idle, since my Grandmother passed away the house is up-kept by my Aunts and Uncles but it isn't lived in. That house mirrors the same feel as the towns around, there is so much evidence of life that has been. A place stuck in the past, as much as it's hard to admit it.
